- 2 teaspoons organic olive oil
- 1 large red onion chopped
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 1 bag NUDEFRUIT Lovable Sour Cherries
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 3 tablespoons organic molasses
- 2 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp fresh rosemary chopped
- 1 tbsp fresh thyme
- sea salt (to taste)
- freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
1 tablespoon ancho chilli powder (if you want a little kick)
1-2 teaspoons liquid smoke (if you want a smoky flavour)
1.2 cup tomato sauce instead of water ( can give it more of an authentic bbq sauce flavour with a bit of tang)
This BBQ sauce is quick and easy to make with a few options to make it your own special sauce. Adding cherries into your diet is a great way to lower inflammation in the body. Cherries have a high ORAC value, which helps lower circulation factors that can cause post exercise pain, gout, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid. ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) is a method of measuring the antioxidant capacity of different foods and supplements. Choosing foods with higher antioxidants will be more effective at neutralizing those free radicals in your body.
Heat the oil in a medium sized stainless steal pot.
Add the onions and caramelize until soft and just turning brown. Add the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil.
Reduce the heat and simmer uncovered for 20 minutes. Turn off the heat and let cool slightly.
Pour the sauce to a high speed blender and puree until smooth.
Pour the sauce into glass containers and store in the refrigerator once cooled to room temperature.
Use as needed for your summer bbq’ing!
